The doctor’s license revocation is permanent: No application to practice medicine will be considered  from him “at any point in the future,” the state Board of Medical Examiners said. In addition, he must divest himself of any financial interest – now or in the future – in the practice of medicine.

Patharkar “indiscriminately prescribed” a highly potent painkiller known as Subsys, which the federal Food and Drug Administration has approved only for use in cancer patients who have “breakthrough pain” while they receive round-the-clock opioid therapy for underlying pain. Sprayed under the tongue, Subsys is 50 times more powerful than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine…
